Though Nepal has made rapid strides at improving the healthcare system of the country, it’s still far too short of what is desirable. In remote areas, many people do not receive any healthcare or receive substandard treatment. There are much fewer doctors, nurses, hospitals and clinics than what’s required. As a result of this, Nepal has one of the lowest life expectancy rate and people succumb to treatable disease every time. If you are a medically trained professional, come to Nepal to volunteer in our Health Project and serve the local people of Nepal. Your role as a volunteer can make a difference in the lives of sick children and adults, many who dream of being able to take care of themselves properly. Volunteering in Nepal Health Project also gives you enriching and life changing experience.

Your Activity as a Volunteer
Volunteers in health care projects assist local doctors and medical staffs. Your work will be assigned according to your level of experience. Volunteer works in hospital include: treating minor injury, taking BP & weight, record keeping of patience, general medical checkup of patient, assisting local doctors, or similar responsibilities. You can also choose to work in the administration.
Skills Required for the Project
Volunteers interested to work in the health project should have some level of work experience in health/medical sector. Only health professionals, medical students, nurses, and volunteers with similar experience are allowed to join the medical project. You must produce medical certification or an ID card which states that you are a medical student.
Project Location
Kathmandu Valley: The Valley is nestled on the lap of mighty Himalayas at an altitude of over 1000 meters. In the Valley, hills sprout up and down and offer spectacular views of the mountains from the top. Hindu and Buddhist shrines of Kathmandu Valley offer fascination and solace for local people. During festivals, hordes descend at these shrines making it a cacophony of celebrations. Bells and whistles ring loud, inviting gods to protect them. The people of the Valley are equally fascinating, especially the Newars, who were here before anyone and have evolved into an ethnic group of rich culture. It’s Newari festivals and medieval houses that make Kathmandu a cultural destination to visit.

Your life as a volunteer in Nepal
As soon as your plane lands at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you’ll find us at your service. One of our staff members will be there waiting for you preferably holding a placard with your name. For this, all you need to do is send us your flight itinerary at least four weeks prior to your departure. In case of delayed flights, please go directly to our contact hotel, the details of which will be given in your placement sheets. Alternatively, you can call our coordinators. The telephone numbers of our country coordinator and emergency contacts will be there in your pre-departure guidebook too.
After you've settled in, we’ll provide a two week long orientation program where you’ll be familiarized with the language and culture of Nepal. During this time, you’ll also go around cities like Kathmandu and Chitwan participating in cultural shows, visiting museums, going rafting, on jungle safaris or bird watching.
Afterward, you’ll be placed in your preferred project. During this time, you’ll stay either with the host family or a hostel as per your choice. Undoubtedly, the projects as well as accommodation will be perfectly safe. You’ll be provided with local meals three times a day. If traditional Nepali food doesn’t appeal to you, you’re welcome to buy your own food and prepare it. Volunteers can reach our coordinator at any time. They are ready to support you whenever you need them. We also conduct regular supervision/meetings when we visit our volunteers every 2 weeks to make sure that things are going good for them.
