Relationship Orphanage Nepal was established in 2004 as a non-governmental charity organization. The aim of the Orphanage is to provide orphaned, homeless and underprivileged children education, healthcare and home.

The Orphanage is located in a quiet neighborhood of Lagankhel and occupies a two-storey building. The environment is very conducive to raise the children as school is nearby and the place is devoid of traffic cacophony that plagues Kathmandu. Inside the Orphanage, there are spacious rooms for the children to sleep, study and eat. At the front, children can play on a large compound.

At present, Relationship Orphanage Nepal is looking after 7 children. The facilities to accommodate more children exist and the Orphanage hopes to take more in future.

Why Relationship Orphanage Nepal needs Volunteers

playing children

Relationship Orphanage Nepal isn’t financially well off. The Orphanage doesn’t have any income generating activities and isn’t self sustaining as there is hardly any land in the Orphanage to grow vegetables. The only option left is for the Orphanage is to rely on donation to run the orphanage. And since Nepal is an extremely poor country, the Orphanage has no option but to look abroad.

When you volunteer in the Orphanage, the fee you pay for the program will go to Relationship Orphanage Nepal. Although the amount may not sound much to you, you’ll be surprised how long way a single dollar can go in Nepal. Through your fee, the Orphanage can provide better food and clothes for the children.

Also, the love and care you bestow on the children will make them feel loved and cared. This is absolutely necessary as most of the children have been through physiological trauma of losing their parents. You will also teach them and make them better understand English, which will come very handy in their lives when they appear for exams and later when they apply for jobs.

Volunteers’ Room

While working in Relationship Orphanage Nepal orphanage, you will stay inside the orphanage. The room is clean and safe. We will enjoy 3 local meals a day made locally. A typical Nepali food is dal (lentil soup), rice, vegetable curry and pickles.

Besides the bedrooms and toilets, Relationship Orphanage Nepal also has a kitchen, a room where children eat and study, and a room where volunteers will stay. The director of the orphanage will supervise the volunteers. If you need any other help, contact our Kathmandu office.

Daily life of volunteers in Relationship Orphanage Nepal

Volunteers will have to wake up early. You’ll brush the children, make sure they are clean and enjoy breakfast with the children. After breakfast, help them prepare to leave for school. Help the change into school uniforms and drop them to school.

You are free until they come back from school. In the evening, you’ll teach them and help them finish their homework.

Sample of activities that you’ll perform:

The children ready to go to school with orphanage management
  • Teach the children for 2-3 hours a day according to demand. During exam time, you’ll probably have to teach little more. You’ll also have to help them finish homework. In schools in Nepal, the children usually end up with lots of homework. If they can’t finish it, they’re usually punished. Prevent that from happening.
  • Personal hygiene: help the children brush teeth, shower them and change them into clean clothes.
  • Drop off and pick up from school
  • Organize fun activities like games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative activities
  • Educational tours, time permitting, take children on a educational tours
  • Help in administrative work, e.g. help in kitchen, office work
  • Help in other activities or programs designed for kids (If any)
