Fresh Orphanage Nepal
Gwarku, Lalitpur, Nepal
Fresh Orphanage Nepal was established in 2006 as a non-governmental, non-profit and social welfare organization. The Orphanage is located in Gwarku, Lalitpur, an area very close to the historic town of Patan. From Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, it’s only a 20 minutes drive to reach the orphanage. The market place also isn’t far off from the Orphanage and the children’s school is just a short walking distance away.
The Orphanage currently occupies a three-storey building and houses 14 orphaned children. There are bunk beds for the children to sleep on and a room usually has around three bunk beds. It’s overcrowded but the Orphanage would rather host these children than reject them.
The mission of Fresh Orphanage Nepal is to provide a home and education to both destitute and orphaned children. The Orphanage hopes to turn these impoverish children into an educated and responsible citizens. Despite financial constraints and many challenges the Orphanage has faced and will face, Fresh Orphanage Nepal hopes that it will continue to operate and expand and has plans to accommodate 100 orphaned and abandoned children in 5 years time.

Why Fresh Orphanage Nepal needs Volunteers
Fresh Orphanage Nepal faces severe financial constraints. The Orphanage has to pay rent on the building, feed its children and buy clothes, bed covers, mattress, blankets and kitchen utensils. There is no help from the government or the local authorities and the local people are financially weak to donate much. The Orphanage is also understaffed. The children need constant attention when feeding them, washing and showering them, while changing their clothes in the case of small babies and helping them with their studies. The staffs at the orphanage are overstretched. In this situation, volunteers can do a lot to help the Orphanage. Your will help the children by making sure they stay clean and healthy. You’ll monitor when they wash and clean themselves, how clean they are, you will make sure they eat properly and you will teach them also. All this activities will greatly ease the burden of Orphanage’s staffs.
While teaching students, you should put in an extra effort to improve their English. The demand to learn English is very high in Nepal. People’s career are often made or broken due to their ability to write and speak in English. In this situation, it’s a priority to improve their English. Help them achieve this feat. The orphanage and the children will be ever grateful to you.
You’ll be surprised how long way a single Dollar can go in Nepal. Through your program fee, which the Orphanage will receive, they can buy clothes for the children and treat them good food.
And lastly but most importantly, the children will really appreciate the love and the care you will provide them. Many children are often a victim of one thing or the other and many shun company due to physiological traumas they’ve suffered as a result of separation from their parents. The Orphanage has brought them to their home to cure the children physiologically also. You’ll help them achieve this and make the children grow to love and appreciate their friends and environment.
This truly is a volunteer project for you if you want to serve humanity.

Meal/Accommodation/Support
While working in Fresh Orphanage Nepal, you will stay inside the orphanage. If the room is occupied, you’ll stay with a host family. Both the place, hostel or host family is safe and clean. We will enjoy 3 local meals a day made locally. The local meals are typically Nepali meals like Dal (lentil soup), rice, vegetable curries and pickles.
Besides the bedrooms and toilets, Fresh Orphanage Nepal also has a kitchen, a room where children eat and study, and a room where volunteers will stay. The director of the orphanage will supervise the volunteers during their stay and describe them the nature of work. If you need any additional help, contact our Kathmandu office.

Daily Life of Volunteers in Fresh Orphanage Nepal
Volunteers will have to wake up early. Enjoy breakfast before walking to the Orphanage if you’re living with a host family. If you leave in the orphanage, you’ll breakfast with the children.
You can also help to prepare the meal early in the morning. Or you can help the children prepare for school by helping them put on their uniforms, making sure they’ve brushed their teeth and showered.
After dropping the children to the school, you’re free until they come back at around 3. Change their clothes after that, play with them, feed them, help them finish their home works and put them to bed.
Sample of activities that you’ll perform:
- Teach the children for 2-3 hours a day according to demand. During exam time, you’ll probably teach little more. You’ll also have to help them finish homework. In schools in Nepal, the children usually end up with lots of homework. If they can’t finish it, they’re usually punished. Help the children get through their homework.
- Personal hygiene: help the children brush teeth, shower them and change them into clean clothes.
- Drop off and pick up from school
- Organize fun activities like games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative activities
- Educational tours, time permitting, take children on a educational tours
- Help in administrative work, e.g. help in kitchen, office work
- Help in other activities or programs designed for kids (If any)
