Profiles of Children in Ashana Orphanage in Lamatar
The Ashana Orphanage in Lamatar currently is looking after 20 children. Most of them are orphaned while few come from very poor family, whose parents are unable to raise them. They’re all from remote regions of Nepal. These children are:
Saroj Tuladhar
Saroj is 10 years old and is one of the bigger boys in the orphanage. He studies in class 7 nearby Sri Mahalaxmi Upper Secondary School. He comes from Lamatar itself. He considers Science as his favorite subject and when he grows up he wants to become a teacher and teach the young children of the orphanage.
Mohan Nepal
Mohan is 10 years old and comes from Rukum, a remote hilly region in Nepal that saw plenty of violence during the recently concluded civil war. Both his parents were killed as a result. He arrived about 18 months back and studies in class 4. He loves to play volley and likes to talk and write in English. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up.
Anita Roka
Anita comes from Dang, an area that saw large proportion of violence during the civil war that concluded about 2 years back. Her parents were orphaned because of that. She’s been living in the orphanage for a year now and attends class 2. She’s 6 years old.
Kamana Roka
Kamana is 8 years old and very jovial. She attends class 3 and the teachers think she’s got bags of talent. She’s from Rolpa and both her parents have passed away. She’s been living in the orphanage for past 2 years.
Avash Nepal
Avash is 8 years old and studies in class 1. Avash just arrive (2 months back) from Rolpa which was the epicenter of Maoist arm uprising. Many people died in the struggle and Avash’s parents were also among many who perished.
Sujan Thapa
Sujan is 6 years old and became part of the orphanage 4 months back. He comes from Dhanding and is studying in class 1.
Sunita Baral
Sunita is 9 years old and studies in class 4. She comes from Kavre. Her father is dead and her mother is extremely poor and unable to raise Sunita. So the orphanage very gladly took her in 4 months back. She studies well and wants to become a lawyer in future.
Niraj Nepal
Niraj comes from Lamathar, the area where the orphanage is located. He’s 9 years old and studies in class 3. Niraj is an orphaned child and likes studying Maths in school. He wants to become a pilot when he grows up.
Bijay Bista
Bijay comes from Sarlahi, a district in the southern flat area of Nepal. He’s an orphaned child and arrived about 6 months back in the orphanage. Bijay is 8 years old and studies in class 2.
Sangita Lamichane
Sangita is from Gorkha, a remote region in the central north of Nepal. She’s 7 years old and studies in class 1. She’s been living in the orphanage for year and half.
Amod Garti Magar
Amod comes from Rolpa, the center of Maoist uprising, where large number of government forces was concentrated to crush the rebels. Many people died as a result. Amod’s parents were among the dead. Since then, Amod has lived in the orphanage. He’s 7 years old and studies in class 1. |
